Our research explores the intersection of psychology and AI in three different ways:
Using AI systems as computational models to test hypotheses about human cognition.
Investigating how people interact with AI systems and with each other in real time.
Understanding the longer-term impacts of AI on human psychology and society.
We evaluate LLMs in a 5-minute, 3-party Turing test and find that GPT-4.5—when prompted to adopt a human-like persona—was judged to be human 73% of the time: significantly more often than real people were judged to be human.
We adapt experimental techniques originally developed to investigate embodied simulation in human comprehenders to ask whether MLLMs are sensitive to sensorimotor features that are implied but not explicit in descriptions of an event.
Introduces EPITOME, a controlled ToM evaluation battery, and shows where LLMs align with—and diverge from—human performance across tasks.

Cameron is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Stony Brook University and the Director of the clic lab. He got his PhD in Cognitive Science from UCSD in 2024. He's interested in how people and AI systems differ, and how they interact.
MA Student
John is an M.A. student in the Psychology Department at Stony Brook University. He has more than 10 years of experience as a consultant at EY and McKinsey. He's interested in AI and mental health and is currently investigating the phenomenon of 'AI psychosis'.
